A DAY AT THE MARKET
Our weekly Monday morning trips to the market in Espinho continue. The experiment continues. I think I may have settled on a way to capture a single moment and direct the focus on the subject I find interesting but that is not entirely settled.
I liked the mother and daughter paired. the background is pen (Micron) using a couple of different lineweights.
This is a nice interaction between the seller and customers and begins to illustrate the constant activity among shopkeepers and customers. I tried a softer faded background, but it the subjects and their interaction is not as strong.
I have seen this man several times, usually attired as shown here. The neutral background begins to capture his aloneness.
These were studies of backgrounds - cool grey and warm grey, and without the linework.
I like that the woman is interacting with someone off the page.
This woman was enveloped by all of the crates and produce that made her look so small and frail. I added washes to get a sense of depth and the larger space.
These were mostly shading studies, focused on the figures rather than a composition. Many of the shoppers are older.
The meat booth. They will slice off a small sample for tasting if you ask.
This is one of our go-to booths. We had a lot of change, and he needed change, so we swithed out the coins for paper at the back of his truck. This is a smaller focused image, so I didn't grey out the background.
